Anis Islam is a dynamic leader at the intersection of technology, policy, and social impact.
Currently serving as the Head of Secure Technology and the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Anis leads critical legislative and regulatory frameworks to enhance the UK’s cybersecurity and digital resilience. His role includes international collaborations and developing policy for IOT.
With a background in digital technology, AI, and cyber policy, Anis has played pivotal roles, including as the Technical Engagement and Policy Lead for the Prime Minister’s AI Safety Institute. Here, he supported the development of the UK’s AI taskforce, now the AI Safety Institute, engaging global AI leaders to establish a groundbreaking framework for AI safety.
Previously, Anis was a Senior Policy Advisor on Cybersecurity Skills, where he developed transformative youth initiatives like Cyber Explorers, impacting over 50,000 students nationwide. He also worked on cross-departmental collaborations with NCSC, the Department for Education, and the Home Office to address the UK’s cyber skills shortage.
Anis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Queen Mary University, a Master’s in Development Studies from SOAS, and is completing a Law degree at BPP. Beyond his professional roles, he is a dedicated advocate for youth empowerment, serving as Head of Politics for the social enterprise Think It Possible and a trustee for Youth Voice Trust. Anis’s contributions to public service and community engagement have earned him multiple accolades, including a royal medal for his work on the King’s Coronation, The Redbridge Youth Award and several international fellowships from the US to Sweden and Bosnia.
